[Vanguard Review] - The Black Knight

Hey folks. Wisel here with another Vanguard clan review~

This time it's Gold Paladin!~ The set from EB03. Also known as the "Ren Build" of the Gold Paladin.

The set in EB03 is pretty good for Spike Brother and Mega Colony.

Not forgetting the Limit Break for Kagero, Royal Paladin and Shadow Paladin.

The new set of Gold Paladin from EB03 is pretty average. It almost has the same playstyle as Shadow Paladin: Ride Chain, Retire Units for effects.

Let's start~

Young Black Dragon, Voltimer
[A]: When "Herald of Darkness, Voltimer" Rides on this, look at the top 7 cards of your Library and search for up to 1 of either "Spectral Duke Dragon" or "Knight of Black Dragon, Voltimer", reveal it, and put it in your hand. Shuffle your Library.
[A]: When a ::Gold Paladin:: that isn't "Herald of Darkness, Voltimer" Rides on this, you may call this to (R).

Having trouble riding Blaster Javelin for Shadow Paladin? Well as for this, Similar to the Bermuda if you fail to ride the specific Grade 1. You'll get to move the Grade 0 to a Rearguard Circle. If you manage to ride the  Grade 1 then you'll able to search for either the Grade 2 or Grade 3 which can help you get a perfect hand for your Ride Chain. The bad point, it is not a direct search like Shadow Paladin.

Herald of Darkness, Voltimer
[C] [(V)]: If "Young Black Dragon, Voltimer" is in your Soul, this gains +1000 Power.
[A]: [Retire 1 of your ::Gold Paladin:: Rearguards] When "Knight of Black Dragon, Voltimer" Rides on this, if "Young Black Dragon, Voltimer" is in your Soul, you may pay cost. If so, look at up to 2 cards from top of your Library and search for up to 2 ::Gold Paladin:: and call them to separate vacant (R)s. Put the rest on the bottom of the Library.

Gaining the additional 1k prevent Opponent from rushing. The effect requires you to retire a unit on the field when you ride the Grade 2. The only possible way to do it is to call a unit after you ride this card. Instead of putting down a 8k unit to retire, you can call down a trigger to do so. Draw Triggers probably. It doesn't matter if you call down a trigger by this effect. This effect helps you to maintain your handsize, gaining units and setting up your field for the main point of this deck which I will cover later.

Knight of Black Dragon, Voltimer
[C] [(V)]: If "Herald of Darkness, Voltimer" is in your Sul, this gains +1000 Power.
[A]: [Retire 1 of your ::Gold Paladin:: Rearguards] When "Spectral Duke Dragon" Rides on this, if "Herald of Darkness, Voltimer" is in your Soul, you may pay cost. If so, look at up to 2 cards from top of your Library and search for up to 2 ::Gold Paladin:: and call them to seperate vacant (R), and put the rest on bottom of the Library in any order.

Similar to the Grade 1.

Spectral Duke Dragon
[A] [(V)] [Limit Break: (4)] [Counterblast: (2), Retire 3 of your ::Gold Paladin:: Rearguards] At the start of the Close Step in which this attacked a Vanguard, you may pay cost. If so, Stand this, and this loses "Twin Drive!!" for the turn.
[C] [(V)]: If "Knight of Black Dragon, Voltimer" is in your Soul, this gains +1000 Power.

The main dish. Gaining 1k if you succeed the Ride Chain. 11k Vanguard really helps alot. The Grade 1 and Grade 2 helps to build field for this unit. Well it can Stand again without hitting through unlike The End and Stern. It's really not that strong and not so weak at the same time. You will have to use all Rearguard to attack first before using the effect of this card to maximum your attacks since the cost requires you to retire 3 units at the Close Step. Also, It is pointless to use the effect of this card if you didn't get a trigger or if your Opponent gets a trigger from your other attacks at that turn.

 Cards that support this set.

Blade Feather Valkyrie
[A] [(R)]: [Counterblast: (1)] When this Boosts "Flash Edge Valkyrie" and the attack hits a Vanguard, if you have a ::Gold Paladin:: Vanguard, you may pay cost. If so, look at the top card of your Library and search for up to 1 ::Gold Paladin:: and call it to a vacant (R). Put the rest on the bottom of the Library.

Flash Edge Valkyrie
[A]: [Counterblast: (1)] When this is placed from the Library to the (R), if you have a ::Gold Paladin:: Vanguard, you may pay cost. If so, look at the top card of your Library and search for up to 1 ::Gold Paladin:: and call it to a vacant (R). Put the rest on the bottom of the Library.

The Valkyrie helps to build up field as well. The only bad point is they don't have high power as attacking Rearguards. Still, It gives pressure to the Opponent.

Warhorse, Raging Storm
[A]: When this is placed to (V) or (R), if you have a ::Gold Paladin:: Vanguard, choose up to 1 ::Gold Paladin:: in your hand and put it in Soul.

The standard Hand Soul Charge. This might help in way. You can charge in the Grade 2 for Spectral Duke Dragon to reach 11k. Not really advisable using as a boost, as it's has 6k power but it can be use to retire for the Spectral Duke Dragon's effect. Very optional card.

Magician of Disaster, Trip
[A] [(V)/(R)]: When this hits a Vanguard with an attack, if you have a ::Gold Paladin:: Vanguard, choose a card in your Damage Zone and turn it face-up.

It is important to have a Damage Recovery as you won't know when you need it. Depend on a Heal Trigger to refresh your damage is pretty difficult. This unit adds on pressure as well.

Performer of the Saintly Bow, Vivian
[A] [(V)/(R)]: [Counterblast: (1)] When this hits a Vanguard with an attack, if this is Boosted by a ::Gold Paladin:: and you have 4 or fewer Rearguards, you may pay cost. If so, reveal the top card of your Library. If it's a ::Gold Paladin::, call it to a vacant (R), otherwise shuffle that Library.

Higher power than Valkyries with almost a similar effect and more pressure.

Blazing Owl
[A]: When this is placed to (R), choose 1 of your other ::Gold Paladin:: units. That unit gains +2000 Power for the turn.

Not good using as a boost but it's effect can be use to add power to Rearguard or Spectral Duke Dragon, Also to retire it for Spectral's effect.

Falcon Knight of the Azure Sky
[A]: When this is placed from the Librart to (R), choose 1 of your other ::Gold Paladin::. That unit gains +2000 Power for the turn.

Similar reasons with Blazing Owl.

Well the Spectral set is pretty decent but it could be better if it has high power Rearguards.
Anyways it's time showcase my favourite card from Gold Paladin clan~

Wind on the Plains, Saguramore
cause it's cute

That's all~
